FIPRESCI (Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique) also known as the International Federation of Film Critics.was founded in 1930 to bring together all national organizations representing professional film critics and journalists.
Today its members include more than 50 national organizations throughout the world. FIPRESCI has the mission to promote and expand the ideaof the cinema as a means of artistic expression and of cultural education. Amongst its many activities, FIPRESCI organizes juries at film festivals of particular importance, e.g. Cannes, Venice and Berlin, to award the prestigious Prix FIPRESCI. Since 1999 it has also awarded a Grand Prix for the Best Film of the Year to recognize those filmmakers who have made the most daring, original and singular contribution to cinema.
